Sang-Ji Fried Bao is a Shanghainese street food restaurant on Yonge Street in North York, specialising in freshly made shengjian bao — Shanghai-style pan-fried bao. Founded by John Xue as an homage to the street food he grew up with in Shanghai, the restaurant has become a well-loved destination in Willowdale for authentic Chinese comfort food. Each order of shengjian bao is made fresh to order: the dough, crafted from scratch with yeast, lard, and a blend of flours, is filled with seasoned pork and gelatinised pork broth. The wonton noodle soup, with wontons made in-house daily and served in a scallion confit stock, and flash-fried short ribs with chili sauce are equally recommended.
